I'll always remember him for being the most kind and loving Grandad. He was always thinking of others and went out of his way to make sure that as kids we had a good time when we were visiting - whether it be taking us to the beach or Flambards, playing games in the garden, rigging-up a swing in the garage or cooking russian cream dessert for us (my favourite). I was very proud to take my best friend to stay with Grandad and Lilian when I was 11 or 12. Grandad would pick us up from the station, welcoming us with open arms and then somehow keep us entertained for several days. It was so much fun that we returned another year. The loving welcome and entertainment was a theme that went on throughout my school holiday visits with my parents and sister Dominique. It continued in to adulthood as I produdly took my fiancee to visit on a cycling holiday and then had a memorable visit with when my son was about one and half. Even though the Alzheimers had started taking it's toll by then, I could tell there was an immediate emotional connection between Grandad and my son Will, who seemed so comfortable and settled in his great grandad's lap. I always admired how active he was later in life and how much he contributed to the local community. I would have loved to have met him as a younger man and I have no doubt I would have been impressed by how he approached life and his many practical talents. I couldn't have asked for a better Grandad and he'll always be lovingly remembered by me and my family. XXXX
