Joan 16th April 2020

I have had the pleasure of knowing Harold, Lilian and Joan over many years but, more recently, dear Harold since he became a resident of the Penhellis Care Home in Helston. It was always a joy to visit him and, in fact, I sometimes used to think that he did me more good than I did him. We shared many happy times together. Harold was a true gentleman and a “gentle man”. He was so contented, never complained and was always grateful for everything that was done for him. He was almost always smiling and, in fact, had rather a cheeky smile at times. When he had a cup of tea brought to him, he would often say “you have some”. He didn’t like to think he was the only one to have a cuppa and that I was being left out. The same with chocolate. He loved to share everything with his family and friends. He never lost his sense of humour. Only a few days before he passed away, the carer went to put his top dentures in but that particular day he refused to have them in (he could be a bit stubborn at times!) The carer went on to ask him why he didn’t want them in, to which he replied “I’ve got enough teeth!”. He looked forward to the monthly service held in the home and always joined in the singing of the hymns which he loved. His favourite song that he liked to sing with me was “Twinkle, twinkle little star”. Harold - you were a star- a bright, shining star. You will be so missed but the star will continue to keep shining. Thanks for the special memories and for being such a dear friend. You will be remembered always with warm affection. God bless you richly and keep you in His loving care. Joan xx
